Lightning Racer Construction Slideshow
When Hersheypark decided that they wanted a new amazing attraction for the 2000 season, they went all the way. They introduced the world to a brand new type of wooden coaster that combines a traditional out and back racing coaster with a dueling coaster. Built by Great Coasters International, Lightning Racer will stand 90 feet tall. Throughout the first part of the ride, the two tracks will race down the first drop reaching 51 mph. They then lift you out of your seat on a few dips. And then suddenly your train turns away from the other track, and before you know it you are dueling with the other train. Throughout the 2 minute and 20 second ride, riders will encounter 15 drops, a dueling syphon drop where trains come within a few feet from each other, 2 dueling turns where their combined speed is in excess of 70 miles an hour, and a near collission with a waterfall.
