Phantom's Revenge

Opens Spring 2001

When Kennywood officially announced that they were going to tear down Steel Phantom, coaster enthusiasts from around the world were stunned. Many people were opposed to the fact that they would be destroying a coaster that rates in many people's top 10. Even a website (www.savethephantom.com) was started for the sole purpose of keeping this coaster the way it is. Well in August of 2000, a compromise was reached and that compromise was Phantom's Revenge. Simply, their idea is to retain all the cool parts of Steel Phantom (like the awesome second drop) and get rid of the bad ones (like the inversions). They hired Morgan Manufacturing to do the job of remastering a masterpiece. They are still working on all the fine details, but below is what we know right now.

Phantom's Revenge - (Steel Phantom)

First Drop: 160 feet (same)
Second Drop: 230 feet (225 feet)
Top Speed: 85 mph (80 mph)
Inversions None (vertical loop, batwing, corkscrew)
New features: 82 degree banked turn at the bottom of second drop. Camelback added in between the first and second drops. 230 foot long tunnel. A few bunny hops torwards the end of the ride.
Track Length: 3,300 feet (3,000 feet)
Manufacturer: Morgan Manufacturing (Arrow Dynamics)
